Vector Laboratories

Challenge

Vector Laboratories has been at the forefront of developing novel, innovative labeling and detection reagents for over a quarter of a century. They require a PDF solution that allows them to send high quality, accurate PDF files to customers and partners electronically. This means producing a PDF file that is small enough for distribution yet with a level of quality that ensures detailed images and colors are maintained for product accuracy.

Solution

Vector used Bluebeam PDF Revu Standard Edition and the included Bluebeam PDF printer to generate a high-quality, light-weight PDF file from Quark. Having attempted the same with Adobe and being disappointed with the results, they decided to try a PDF solution provided by a company that specializes in architectural and engineering CAD drawings - Bluebeam. The results of their comparison made it clear that Bluebeam better suited their needs as the difference in file size and output quality was immediately apparent.

According to Melissa Lee, Biology Specialist, "Converting our brochure to PDF using Adobe would have been pointless. The converted file does not accurately display the high quality of our products. Not only that, the file would have been too big to conveniently propagate." In her evaluation, she converted the same 215 MB Quark file with Adobe and then with Bluebeam. Adobe reduced the file to 191 MB. The Bluebeam PDF came to 8.2 MB. Further, she found the quality of Bluebeam's PDF to be superior for two reasons. First, the Adobe colors are not brilliant compared to the Bluebeam PDF. They appear faded and, as a result, are inaccurate. Second, the fluorescent pictures in the Adobe PDF file are visibly distorted, which does not accurately display the high quality of their products. Bluebeam was able to easily meet the file size and print quality demands of Vector Laboratories, ensuring that their marketing deliverables meet the high standards their customers expect.
