Ask the Expert

What is the Markups list in Bluebeam PDF Revu, and how can I use it?

The Markups list is a great feature for tracking and reviewing comments made on PDF files and for managing PDF collaboration. Users can display the Markups list by clicking the bar at the bottom center of the Revu interface. You can toggle the Markups list on and off by going to View/Tabs/Markups.

Every time a markup is placed on a PDF, Revu adds a row to the Markups list containing property data such as author, page, color and any comments associated with the markup. Share feedback with other Bluebeam PDF Revu users by importing and exporting comments, or by creating PDF, XML or CSV markup summaries. Together, these features provide a powerful tool for users who review documents and collaborate via PDF.

Uses of the Markups list are endless. Here are some examples from Bluebeam customers in a variety of fields.

General Office Users – Convert text documents to PDF and send them securely to multiple users for review. Then, use the Markups list to import all comments from document reviewers and view all proposed changes on one PDF.

Architects – Markup a PDF drawing during a final walk through. The Markups list becomes a punchlist that can be saved as a separate PDF and emailed to contractors.

Engineers – Redline shop drawings with Revu. The Markups list will serve as a record of all proposed changes to an item during the design process.

Construction Professionals – Submit RFIs electronically by marking up PDF drawings. Use the Markups List to add additional comments and questions about an area of the building.

Estimators – Use the Measure Tool for electronic takeoffs to automatically store the measurements in the Markups list. Then use the Markups list to create a .CSV Summary of all markups and open it in Excel to perform additional calculations.

Specifiers – Use the Comments column of the Markups List to provide detailed information about materials to be used in the project, including web addresses for vendors who carry the materials.

Students and Educators – Take notes on PDFs of class handouts or electronic books. Use the Markups list to review notes and create a PDF summary of your notes for use as a study sheet.
