Ask Greg: What are the key benefits of Revu’s integration into SharePoint and ProjectWise?
Bluebeam PDF Revu version 8 now integrates with Microsoft SharePoint and Bentley ProjectWise document management systems. PDF files stored in SharePoint’s Document Library and ProjectWise’s DataSource can be viewed, checked out, edited and checked back in all from within the Revu interface. Other document types can also be converted to PDF and then checked into your preferred system.
Revu’s integration into document management systems was developed in response to requests from our users. In fact user feedback during the development of version 8 was crucial in determining the best, seamless workflow options for accessing files stored in SharePoint and ProjectWise. The end result? A flexible interface that enables you to manage your integration level based on your needs.
- Full integration allows you to open and save files directly through the document management system.
- Toolbar integration only is the most seamless integration option. It allows you to use the Document Management toolbar, which can be found under View > Toolbars, to open and save files.
- Always show selection will prompt you to select the DataSource, Library or the local file system each time you open and save a file.
- Checkout on open will always perform the checkout operation for any file accessed from a document management system.
- Prompt for check-in comments displays a dialog that allows adding comments to the document management system during the check-in operation.
- Internet Explorer allows you to open files directly from SharePoint’s Internet Explorer interface.

The Recents list, included within Revu’s new File Access tab, and the document tabs located at the top of Revu’s interfaces are also fully integrated. After you have finished editing your PDF document, you can click on the red checkmark located next to your file name to display your file options. You can select Check-In, Update Server Copy, Undo Checkout or view the file Properties. After you check-in the file, the file name symbol will change from a red checkmark to a yellow padlock indicating that the file has be locked and now resides back in the document management system. Really, it’s that simple.
