Ask Greg: Backing up Custom Tool Sets and Profiles
Bluebeam PDF Revu’s Tool Chest is a powerful tool that allows you to create custom tool sets to efficiently store and share commonly used markups for various job functions and projects. These tool sets can be saved locally, shared across your network, or mailed to other project members or clients.
With customers buying new computers and upgrading to Windows 7, we have seen an increase in the amount of users that want to bring their custom tool sets and profiles over to their new systems. We have also seen a few unfortunate cases where users have deleted their custom tool sets in the process. So, to avoid this issue and ensure that your tool sets aren’t lost during transitions, upgrades, or hard drive failures, this month’s article focuses on how to manage and backup your tool sets and profiles, as well as archive stamps.
Manage Tool Sets
- Click on the Manage Tool Sets icon to open the Manage Tool Sets window
- Select a tool set that you want to save, then click Export
- Choose a location to save the custom tool set and click Save
- Repeat selecting and exporting your tool sets until you have finished saving all of the tool sets you want saved
- To re-load a tool set onto another computer and back in to Revu, open the folder where the tool set is saved, and simply double-click on the saved file. The tool set will automatically install into Revu
- Exit Revu when finished
Manage Profiles
In the same manner that you manage tool sets, you can also manage your profiles. This will save the configuration of your Revu interface in regards to what tool bars and panels are open, and where they are located.
- Double click on the Profile icon at the bottom of your screen
- Select the profile that you want to save, then click Export
- Note that when checking the box that says Include Dependencies, it will save all tool sets included within that profile as well
- Choose a location to save the profile and click Save
- To re-load a profile onto another computer and back in to Revu, open the folder where the tool set is saved, and simply double-click on the saved file. The profile will automatically install into Revu
- Exit Revu when finished
Archive Stamps
You can also archive stamps if they are not already managed on your network.
- From your Start menu, go to All Programs
- Select Bluebeam Software then Bluebeam Administrator
- Click on the Net Config tab
- Click directly on the file path in the Text Stamps field. This will take you to the folder location where your stamps are stored.
- Select the stamps that you want to archive, then copy and paste them to another location or folder of your choice.
- After Revu has been reinstalled on your new computer, go to the Markup tab, Stamp, then Import Stamp
- Select the stamp that you want to import, then click Open
- The stamp will now appear in your stamps list
