Toomas 'Topi' Heikkinen Set to Take the Track at Tomorrow's Global Rallycross Event

Heikkinen to Make His Comeback at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Following Last June's X Games Crash

Despite a death-defying crash at this summer's X Games, Bluebeam-sponsored Global Rallycross standout Toomas "Topi" Heikkinen is ready to make a comeback. Topi will take to the track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway tomorrow evening during the fifth round of the 2012 Global Rallycross Championship (GRC).

 

After spending the last three months home in Finland recovering from a severely broken ankle and internal injuries, Topi put his 2012 Bluebeam-sponsored OMSE Ford Fiesta to the test this past Tuesday and Wednesday in Lake Elsinore, California - his first time behind the wheel since the June 29th crash that totaled his original Ford Fiesta rally car.

 

Topi will take to the track tomorrow in Las Vegas. His all-new Ford Fiesta, assembled in just two short months, will sport a 600-horsepower Ford Duratech 2.0 liter engine with Garrett Turbo and an AWD 6-speed sequential gearbox transmission.

 

Topi's sponsor, Bluebeam Software, is excited to see that the thrill-seeking Heikkinen has recovered and is ready to return to rallycross. "Topi has attacked his recovery and return to GRC in the same way he attacks the track - all out. He knows how to push his body and his car to the limit," said Bluebeam CEO Richard Lee. "With something to prove and one goal in mind - taking first place - Topi's comeback will be unforgettable.

 

In addition to the much publicized X Games crash, Topi's Global RallyCross debut has been filled with full-contact, heart-stopping events. In his last U.S. racing appearance at Dallas, Topi battled closely with GRC points-leader Tanner Foust in qualifying, only to be shut out of the finals over a rules misunderstanding. At the GRC opening race in Charlotte this past May, Topi was third across the finish line, but received a black-flag disqualification for his aggressive tactics on the track.
